| Lidl has announced an extension to their store in north London based at Edmonton Green Shopping precinct. The outlet will grow by 50% of its present size to 13000 square feet overall. The development is being carried out by St Modwen. The Senior Development Manager at St Modwen, Gary Morris, said “Edmonton Green is thriving in what is still a period of market recovery. It is particularly positive that, as well as letting stores to new retailers, existing tenants such as Lidl are expanding in the centre. This is good news for Edmonton Green which continues to attract household names as footfall and demand increases.” A spokesman from Lidl remarked “Lidl has occupied the current unit since May 2008. We now look forward to opening a larger store shortly with an increased product offering and enhanced customer experience as well as offering new jobs for local people.” |

| Lidl has announced a new store for Pickering creating an estimated 30 new jobs for residents in the area. The shop is scheduled to open for business in the summer of 2012. A spokeswoman for Lidl stated “Lidl is working very closely with both Ryedale District Council and North Yorkshire County Council in respect of the opening of the new store at Pickering and the associated highway improvements. It is anticipated the store should open by summer 2012. This is later than originally scheduled due to the extensive highway improvements and the associated design work involved. Residents of Pickering can rest assured that Lidl is committed to these proposals and is working hard go open the store as soon as possible.” |

| Lidl has announced a new store for Christchurch providing 40 jobs for the area. The shop is scheduled to open for business at the end of July, 2011. Construction workers are currently on site. A spokesman from Lidl said “There has been a delay due to the contract between ourselves and Ian Griffiths which gave Purewell Electrical 18 months to vacate and find alternative premises. Now they have moved down the road to the Meteor Retail Park we are very pleased to be starting work on our new store and look forward to opening in the summer.” Paul Riley, Christchurch Borough Council spokesperson, stated “This is really good news for the local economy, especially as it will be providing new jobs for people in the Grange ward hopefully. We hope this will help to revive Somerford Road and be the first of other investments in the area.” |

| Lidl has announced the withdrawal of their plans to open a new outlet in Hillingdon, Middlesex. Some concern was raised by residents and council officials with regard to increased traffic in the area which the new store would create. A new school is already proposed for the area which would add to the traffic congestion. Officials at Lidl withdrew the plans at the end of March 2011. |

| Discount supermarket chain Lidl are hoping to acquire land at Westridge Road, Portswood, creating 40 new jobs and improving parking facilities in the area. Opponents say it will put a strain on already congested roads, limit options for parking and force independent traders out of business. The council will sell the land, providing Lidl can get planning permission for the new store, which would involved demolishing other properties in St Denys Road, opposite a planned new Sainsbury's store to be built on the former bus depot. Independent traders are worried that their businesses would be affected as more pressure would be put on parking spaces. |

| Lidl UK GmbH has opened a new store in Bicester, Oxfordshire, creating 25 new jobs. The store is the town's first discount supermarket. Regional director Martin Bailie said: “I think Bicester wanted something different and we are definitely going to give them something different. “It’s important for us being the first discount store. “Sainsbury’s and Aldi are also opening in Bicester, so it was important for us to get in first. “I’ve spoken to customers and they’ve said Tesco should not rule the roost. We are very proud of what we have done.” |

| Lidl has announced a new supermarket to be built at Portishead, Somerset. The outlet is to form part of a larger development to include a Travelodge Hotel and Subway Sandwich shop. Outline plans show an 11500 square feet store; the site has been cleared and construction has commenced with the supermarket expected to open in time for the seasonal trade at the end of 2011. Approximately 30 new jobs are forecast. |

| Lidl is to open a new supermarket at Bicester in March 2011. Around 30 new jobs are being created at the site. The store is to be built on the site of a former printing company - CCH Print Works - and it is hoped that the shop will attract further investment into the site. Extensive redevelopment and refurbishment has taken place over a period of months to transform the site from the a print production unit into a Lidl supermarket. |

| Lidl has opened a new store at Southampton Road, Salisbury creating around 30 new jobs at the site. The supermarket was opened by Mayor, Brian Dalton; covering around 1640 square metres stocked with the usual discounted goods sold through Lidl outlets. Lidl are to have input to the public travel services around the store, influencing the public to use pedal cycles and car share arrangements. Lidl will come up with £300,000 towards the scheme which will be taken over by a transport management company in due course. |
